Joe Hoselton first joined SMU in the Division of Music back in 2001. Having just graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a degree in Music, he was originally tasked with music recruitment, but by advancing his skills in FileMaker Pro, Joe was able to create more efficient systems to support day to day operations and maintain data more effectively for the whole of the School of the Arts. This led to his advancement as the Director of Graduate Admissions in 2009 and in 2015, he also graduated with his Master of Music from SMU. It was around this time that SMU became a Slate institution. Tapping into his prior experience with FileMaker Pro, Joe explored and maximized the resources offered through Slate to engage all features to maximize recruitment and admissions initiatives, ultimately driving him to seek a role entirely centered in Slate development. Beginning in 2023, Joe was appointed as Slate Captain over SMU's graduate instance and has been working closely with all graduate program stakeholders, standardizing and unifying best practices for all.
